Whether you're moving across town or across the country, settling into a new city comes with a big checklist and West Fargo has its own way of doing things.

To help you feel right at home faster, we've rounded up the essential services, local programs, and resources that new (and long-time) West Fargo residents should know about.

Let's make adulting a little easier.

Utilities & City Services

When you move to West Fargo, one of your first stops should be setting up your utilities.

The City of West Fargo handles a variety of services all bundled into one monthly bill, making it easy to manage. Your bill includes water, sewer, garbage, recycling, sump pump maintenance, vector control, and even forestry services (yes, really).

To start or stop service, complete the Utility Service Application through the city's website. You can also sign up for eStatements and automatic payments to simplify the billing process. Bills are sent at the end of the month and due by the 15th of the following month—based on your actual usage.

City Hall is your go-to for any questions:

  • Address: 2515 6th St E, West Fargo

  • Phone: (701) 515-5015

Sanitation & Recycling

Garbage and recycling in West Fargo is managed by the city's Sanitation Division.
Residents can choose between a 64-gallon or 96-gallon garbage cart, with a small fee difference. If you want to switch cart sizes, there is a one-time $30 swap fee.
Collection days vary by zone, and recycling rotates every other week. The city provides a color-coded map to help you keep track of your schedule. To make sure your items are picked up, place bins at the curb by 7 a.m. on your assigned day.
There are also several drop-off sites for recycling and compostable yard waste. Just keep in mind, drop-off locations are closed during winter months.
For questions, call the Sanitation Department:
  • Address: 117 8th St. W

  • Phone: (701) 515-5400
